Youth Empowerment and Mainstreaming
Studies show that not being able to read, write or do basic mathematics is directly correlated to delinquent behaviour and ignorance especially among youth. In the community of Mountain View it is observed that there is a high level of functional illiteracy predominantly among youth. Poor decision making and reasoning ability are also recognized as actions derived from functional illiteracy which in the case of Mountain View is caused by the high levels of primary and high school drop outs. A collaborated effort with key agencies such as JFLL,HEART/NTA and Excelsior Community College to host and execute: 1. Remedial classes 2. Homework classes 3. Literacy & Skills training Many of the community centres in the area could be used as classrooms/training rooms to facilitate this initiative.
